iPhone 3G’s Modem Firmware Downgraded

July 27th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in iPhone News

iPhone Dev team have posted in there blog that they have successfully downgraded iPhone 3G firmware to an older version…..

This image is the “About” screen from a 3G iPhone that was bought in a store last week. As you can see the modem firmware version has been successfully downgraded to an older “beta” firmware. This is not an unlock (yet), but it is our illustration of the first progress made with regard to hacking the 3G baseband. We have accomplished this by being able to execute our own code on the baseband that allows us to circumvent security checks and flash the baseband with older, disallowed firmware. Please note this has been accomplished using software only, the iPhone 3G has not been disassembled or hardware modified in any way.

Disable iTunes iPhone backup

July 25th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in iPhone Guides

Before you start we just want to say that: IF YOU DISABLE THIS OPTION IN ITUNES,YOUR PHONE WILL NOT GET BACKED UP.

This command will change a hidden setting in the iTunes preferences that will force it to skip the backup process.

1. - Quit iTunes.
2. - Open Terminal.app
3. - Copy and paste this in, then hit return:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true

4. - Open iTunes
5. - Plug in your iPhone (2.0 or 3G) and sync.

It will take a few seconds, assuming you don’t have a ton of music or podcasts.

Changing the ‘true’ in step 3 to ‘false’ will re-enable the backup feature.

Enjoy!

Installer and Kate for 2.0 iPhone

July 24th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in iPhone News

The Rip Dev team has given out some info regarding the Installer v4.0.

As you surely know by now, Pwnage Tool 2.0 is out. And for now, it has no Installer 4.0 in it.

This is because we have decided to not release an undertested product into the wild - we don’t want any mess on the phone this time. So Installer 4.0 will come out soon… as soon as we’re confident it functions properly, we will release it - and trust us, we are not going to delay it for a long time.

Meanwhile, all of the popular tools that can’t get to App Store for various reasons will have to be redone for firmware 2.0 - mostly because the inner workings of the system (in large, the way user interface works) have changed a lot since 1.1.x, so it will take some time for the authors to update and test their stuff. We expect the Installer to be ready by the time there’s something to offer you.

A lyrical off-topic. Why Big Bear in the post title and what the heck has it to do with the rest? The answer is simple - every iPhone OS release has it’s own codename (the name of the volume on the disk image file containing firmware files). 1.1.4 used to be LittleBear, and 2.0, you guessed it, is BigBear.

Now what about Kate? It is 90% ported to 2.0 as of now and we are finishing the remaining work and then testing it - so expect it to be out for Installer 4.0 in a week or two. Of course, you will not have to purchase it again if you already did (and if you have changed your iPhone to 3G model, email our sales department and they will arrange the license transfer for you).

Thanks for your patience and support!

BossPrefs v2.0.2a (alpha) (for 2.0 in Cydia!)

July 23rd, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in iPhone Apps

This is the first working version for 2.0 devices. There will be some issues but the major stuff should work. The airplane / phone toggles are not implemented, the add plugin GUI is not implemented, and there may be some other minor issues. I think double tap home needs some work. The bulk of it works. Now you can  toggle SSH easy . Now available in Cydia.

Temporary solution to disable Auto-correction in 2.0 Firmware

July 23rd, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in iPhone Guides

until we find the way to switch it on/off you can do the following:

under /System/Library/Textinput/ delete specific bundle for the keyboard that you are using

example:

if you want to disable Autocorection on an English keyboard US or GB delete(or backup on your hard drive) file “TextInput_en.bundle”

Thx to Amet for this 1
